The Wisdom of the Flower

A Flower is evidence of an Intelligence and Love we dare not try to understand lest It annihilate us.

How to Recognise a True Spiritual Teaching.

What’s wrong with this picture? Not the lemons…that’s a picture of abundance. This…A person who claims to have become “Enlightened” ending up poor, lonely, sick, old or dead, or all of the above.

Recently i read an article written by such a person from their hospital bed. It brought to mind something a Syrian mystic wrote, “The way that provides not for the wayfarer, is no way to fare upon”. The quote spoke to me… if the Spiritual teaching we are following is not Spiritually Providing for our daily needs, if We are not being Spiritually Fed, Supported, Healed, Forgiven, Comforted and Protected, then one of two things is happening;

  1. The teaching is incomplete or false. That is, it’s not really Spiritual or
  2. The teaching is Complete but our understanding is incomplete.

Perhaps the first question we need to ask is, “What does it mean to be Spiritual Provided?”

To help us with the answer we need only to look up from “our” limited life and out the window. When we do, we notice that there is an Intelligence and Love “Providing” for every other living thing. Birds, insects and native animals have their needs met without apparent struggle or strife (until they come within range of humans). Forces such as gravity, weather, seasons and tides work cooperatively with the elements, plants and creatures of the earth and sea in a vast and generous eco-system we call Nature. In other words, every form of Life, from the smallest ant to the largest whale is Provided for, Spiritually. That is, they don’t decide to do anything separate from what their inner instincts dictate. They just go with the “flow” and that flow is Infinitely Loving and Intelligent.

However, when we look at man (not gender-specific), he seems to have been left out of the picture. Or was he?

What really happened was that man took himself out of the picture by thinking he could provide for himself. Suddenly he separated himself from the Infinite Flow of his own inner Being and experienced limitation: Limited health, limited supply, limited love, limited happiness, limited safety etc etc etc. Ignorance of this fact makes us look outside for remedies and solutions. Isn’t this a ridiculous scenario?

Now…back to the quote..”The way that provides not for the wayfarer, is no way to fare upon”. Surely then, a True Spiritual teaching will help its followers become Consciously Receptive to our very own built-in Infinitely Intelligent and Loving “Provider” (which Is our own Consciousness). This can only be done through correct and sustained meditation, because the thinking human mind has a persistent habit of judging, desiring and fearing which separates it from its own Good. Meditation quiets the thinking mind and allows “us” to become transparencies for the Infinite Intelligence and Love of the Universe to do Its thing. Eventually, We Realize that the One Infinite Intelligence and Love Is Us, Individualized (not personalized). It is already Providing, Sustaining and Nurturing, Infinitely and Eternally. “Our” role is to drop the personal sense of “us”, “me”, “we”, “i” (the one that judges, desires and fears), and Realize We are already Spiritually Provided for. That Realization translates into Harmonious conditions in our practical daily lives.

It’s worth noting that Jesus also said, “By their fruits you shall know them” – Matthew 7:16. So…is your Spiritual teaching fruitless?

“My Kingdom is not of this world” explained

When one of the most Enlightened Beings to ever walk the planet said “My Kingdom is not of this world”, he was not blowing a giant raspberry at all of us as if to say “I have exclusive rights to secret club to which you’ll never have access”. But that’s exactly how the religious world has interpreted it, and given atheists a perfectly valid reason not to believe in religion.

“This world” is simply our unenlightened consciousness continually throwing up its rumours for us to accept. Rumours of disease, poverty, immorality, danger and war. The religious world thinks that if it prays enough, repents enough, sacrifices enough, suffers enough or pays enough, it will somehow be freed from all its ills and gain access to this secret kingdom. But isn’t that just rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic? My Kingdom is NOT of “this world”, so why try to manipulate it?

Similarly, if we are not religious in the orthodox sense, we see a problem in “this world” and we either think it is unavoidable or we try to change it, reform it, improve it or heal it. But, in either case, isn’t this still accepting “this world” at face value?

On the other hand, the metaphysical and non-duality movements have suggested that we accept our suffering and problems as part of what “is”. By not judging these as “bad” in the “now”, our feelings will somehow evapourate into an emorphous “now”. But don’t we have the feelings “now”? By denying the evils of “this world” and our feelings, haven’t we given them substance just as much as if we accept them? You cannot deny something that you haven’t first acknowledged is there to deny, right? “Is” is My Kingdom, and it never included the “bad”.

We must recognize both the discordant conditions and the consequent feelings are a result of a “me” that has been fooled into thinking that “this world” of good and evil is real.

Jesus was giving us a Principle to live by. “My Kingdom” is a Consciousness of Love, Freedom, Peace, Wellness, Abundance and Joy (without any opposites). This is the “Kingdom” of which he was Conscious, that is accessible to everyone who also becomes Conscious. This “Kingdom” has no connection to “this world”, the world of the senses, which takes up all our attention. In other words, the “world” of which we are normally conscious, the world which we see, hear, taste, touch and smell, is a misperception of that which is Real (My Kingdom). Our senses cannot detect the Real (where no opposites operate), so they mislead us into believing that discord (which is just an effect of our mind’s misperception) is real.

Human consciousness focuses all its attention on the visible, audible, tangible world, not realizing that its own mind has “created” the world (through its consciousness that believes in both good and evil) which then grabs its attention – a vicious cycle. To clarify:

  • You cannot have a Consciousness of Freedom and similtaneously be conscious of “someone” that is not free.
  • You cannot have a Consciousness of Wellness and similtaneously be conscious of “someone” that is sick.
  • You cannot have a Consciousness of Abundance and similtaneously be conscious of “someone” that is lacking.

Do you see now how My Kingdom cannot be of “this world”? Our efforts and protests keep us in ignorance.

Jesus didn’t mean for you to believe what he said, he meant you to repeat “My Kingdom” within Your Secret Self, Be still, and watch “this world” melt away to Reveal Harmony.
